Savage Gear 3D Manic Shrimp….Product Review

November 18, 2022

For many years artificial shrimp has been a mainstay of plastic lures. In recent years or even months, there have been significant improvements to these popular lures, and one is the Savage Gear 3D Manic Shrimp. We wanted to see what this lure was all about, and here’s what we learned.

The Savage Gear 3D Manic Shrimp had factors that made it a key player in the artificial shrimp line. Here are a few of the features that got our attention.

  • Interchangeable Weedless Hook: This is a great feature. It allows you to change hooks depending on the need and species you’re fishing for and less tearing of the lure while changing the hook.
  • A Woven Mesh Keeps the Lure Together for Durability: The stronger mess makes it possible to fish longer with each shrimp, especially when fishing around toothy fish, structure, or oyster bottoms.
  • Segmented Tail Allows for “Thumping” Action: Really liked this feature. The sound is subtle but has just enough noise to attract the fish. I like that it comes from the tail, making it even more authentic. A feature that most plastic shrimp don’t have.
  • Made From a 3D Scan of an Actual Shrimp: This seems to be a game-changer. The lure is made as close to the actual shrimp as possible, increasing your catching ratio significantly.
  • Antennae and Legs Create Small Movements in the Water: While this may sound insignificant, it’s not. It is replicated as close as possible to the actual movements of the shrimp, making it a more effective lure.

I’ll have to say that I was impressed. While there are a number of great shrimp lures on the market, the Savage Gear 3D Manic Shrimp takes a huge leap forward. They have created a plastic lure that covers multiple bases. While the price seems a little high, the focus is on durability and the Thermoplastic Elastomer product it’s constructed of. The level of durability allows for longer use, especially when considering the changeable hook feature. It has multiple attractive features like the segmented tail that produces a thumbing noise and the legs and antenna that crates those movements that will also attract fish. When you combine all these features with the fact that it comes in multiple colors, it makes this lure is a game-changer.
